A member of the Republican Party of India and a lawyer by profession. He was the only successful candidate to be elected for the Bomay Legislative Assembly from the Schedule Caste Federation during the 1952 assembly elections for Bombay. He revolted against the RPI leadership in the year 1959 and formed his own party by the name RPI (Durust).
He also formed the Dalit Sahitya Sangh and organised the first Dalit Sahitya Samelan in the year 1958 in Bombay.
