He was one of the founder members of the Hind Mazdoor Sabha that got formed in the year 1948 and was member of the Congress Socialist Party. He got elected as a BMC Councillor and had played an important role during the Quit India movement in Bombay. In late 1940s he played a crucial role in the formation of the Greater Bombay Tenants Union and was its President.
