In the year 1832, the government decided to kill the stray dogs to which many of the Parsis objected and during one such raid by the Dog squad led to the call of a day long strike by Parsis on 7th June. During the strike the food and grain shops were forced to shut down and the bread and meat supply to the British supply at Coloba. In response to it many Parsis were arrested and put in jail for rioting on streets.
