Sheikh Misri was believed to have come to Bombay from Egypt around the fifteenth century, though as with many of the city’s other shrines, by the nineteent century the shrine was maintained by a more local Konkani family firm. He was a trader turned preacher according to some accounts. According to an another legend, to allow the poor to augment their income, he miraculously converted the salt layering the landscape around Antop Hill-Wadala, to misri (sugar). A weighinf scale stands in the courtyard of the dargah where the followers weigh the offerings they make.
