the stone from the quarries around Kurla was termed Kurla Stone. Yellow in color and thus also called ‘yellow basalt’ formed part of the Deccan Trap. Was extensively used during the construction of many colonial buildings including the Rajabai Clock Tower, Central Dome of the Museum amongst others.
