In March 1837, three Europeans obtained from East India Company a grant by way of a perpetual lease of 26 acres of alnd at Colaba. The object of the Company was to reclaim land from the Sea at Colaba and to construct warehouses and other buildings for commercial purposes.

In the year 1874 New Colaba Company took over the assets of the earlier company and in the year 1875 they started a Mill.
