In the year 1960 (16th May) he organised a one day bandh to demand for the equitable distribution of water in the city and framing a water policy for the city.

In the year 1963 he was arrested under Defense of India Rules for carrying out 'anti-national' activities. At that time he was a corporator at the BMC and President of the Bombay Taximen's Union.

He was the President of the BEST Workers Union
