Anna Kurien was a convener of the Nivara Hakk Suraksha Samiti and a very active participant in the struggle of several slum communities including Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Geeta Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar amongst others. She was jailed for preventing the eviction of slum dwellers from Sanjay Gandhi National Park. She ran a school for the children at Sanjay Gandhi Nagar-Cuffe Parade.
