G D Ambekar was a trade unionist and founder of the Rashtriya Mill Mazdoor Sangh (RMMS) and was a leader of the Indiain National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and a member of the governing body of the ILO. He died in the year 1964 (December) while he was returning from a meeting of the ILO. He was an important non-communist leaders of the mill industry in Bombay and was votary of not using strikes as a way of resolving labour issues and formed the non-communist union-RMMS.
