Haji Ali dargah located on a tiny islet off the beach at Mahalaxmi was built in 1431 by a wealthy Muslim merchant who renounced his worldly possessions before embarking on a pilgrimage to Mecca. He died on the pilgrimage and his remain were interred at the tomb at Haji Ali.
