Demolition Man was the epithet given mostly by the press to Govind R Khairnar who worked as the Deputy Commissioner (Demolitions) at BMC during the 1990s and early 2000s for acting as out a one man army that was there to clear the city of unauthorised constructions especially the pavement and slum dwellers. For this he was hauled as a hero of the middle class. After his retirement in the year his post was taken by Chandrashekhar Rokde and Kalam Patil subsequently who over saw the demolition of 90,000 houses during 2004-05 and earned the same title from the press.
