Communist party led mill workers trade union formed in the May 1928. The union consolidated its influence on workers during the general strike of 1926 and its membership increased to 54,000 by the end of the year. S A Dange, R M Nimbkar, K N Joglekar and some other leaders of the Union were arrested in 1929 on charges of sedition in the famous Merut Conspiracy Case.
