The union consolidated its influence on workers during the general strike of 1926 and its membership increased to 54,000 by the end of the year. S A Dange, R M Nimbkar, K N Joglekar and some other leaders of the Union were arrested in 1929 on charges of sedition in the famous Merut Conspiracy Case.
